What the F**K are you Doing? is an interactive web initiative by The Cabaret Company that features interviews by theatre artists working in Toronto and Hamilton who are dedicated NOT to making money, NOT to being rich and famous but instead – to their work as artists. So, here is your chance to find out what the hell they do and why the hell they do it? What do they get out of it?
What the F**K Are You Doing? is a spirited response to the commercialization of Toronto and Hamilton theatre, and the de-Canadianization of the work that is supported by our arts councils. It seems that everybody who does theatre in Toronto and Hamilton is producing plays by well known and established Brits and Americans (remember before the Canada Council even existed? The 1950s? It was like this back then too!) The Cabaret Company wants everyone to know that Canadians are doing ORIGINAL CANADIAN WORK and often that work is QUEER and INNOVATIVE.
But in our hyper-digitalized mega-world it’s easy to be confused by the notion of making art for well—the sake of art, or ideas or…whatever! Why would anyone create art for arts sake? Or to change the world? What do they get out of it? What, after all IS art? Why would people do something that DOESN’T make them rich (or even famous!)? What’s the point?
What the F**k are you Doing? will find out how artists themselves answer these question. What it is they do and why they do it!
